I've had some success doing this. So far I have applied for and received 3 cards and 60,000 bonus miles. MBNA (the card issuer) almost seem to encourage multiple cards.

I'm leaving it a couple of months before applying for a 4th card. I think the value of the 20,000 miles makes this one of the best CC rewards in the UK.
