That does make sense, but when I think about it, the only times I have used the GEX is in off-peak times where there is not much commuter travel anyway.
If the GEX was making a huge loss, it would make sense to cancel it, but during the day, there isn't too much other traffic (the GEX is being cancelled to make room for other trains) and the GEX is a nice and comfortable way to make the journey
