In Seam Reap, Cambodia near Anchor Wat, I hired the tout that gave me a ride from the airport to a hotel to be my driver and guide (didn't think of him as a bodyguard) for the next two days and it worked out well. He had a car during the day and a motor bike at night. I can't remember the cost, but it was not much.
