Question HELP - Need Info re re-ticketing fee

My husband & I have been ticketed for about 8 months for JFK --> SXM via SJU in May. Reason we were on the connecting flight was that the direct flight was not available on Sunday. Yesterday, I noticed that the direct flight is now available so I re-tickteted and we were charged the $100 fee each. Today, I happen to notice that the original connecting flight’s departure time had changed by 25 minutes from what we had booked. That being the case, I should not have been charged the $100 fee when I changed to a different flight.

I called AA. They told me that the schedule change “must have” occurred after I ticketed but they can’t tell me when that was. Spoke to a supervisor and he did not really understand what I was saying but told me to e-mail Customer Relations.

Any suggestions for how to proceed? Even if this did occur after my call yesterday – someone should have known it was going to happen and advised me. We're not even ticketed on the new flight yet. Thanks.
