Delta, Taiwan Airline to Sell Seats

Delta Air Lines and China Airlines, Taiwan's Largest Carrier, Will Market Seats Together

ATLANTA (AP) -- Delta Air Lines and China Airlines, Taiwan's largest carrier, announced an agreement Monday to sell seats on each other's hub flights.

The deal gives Atlanta-based Delta a second partner in the Asian market, where its service is limited.

Delta will sell seats on China's daily flights to Taipei from New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. China will put its code on Delta flights from the California cities to Atlanta, Cincinnati, Dallas-Fort Worth, Salt Lake City and Tampa, Fla. The airlines expect to expand the agreement in the future.

China Airlines has a codesharing agreement with American Airlines to handle mail, but Delta is its first U.S. partner with passengers.

China President Christine T. Tsung said she and Delta's chairman and chief executive Leo F. Mullin ``share very close management philosophies.'' Tsung said there has been no discussions yet about whether China might join the Delta-led SkyTeam Alliance.
