One thing to keep in mind is that you have to pay to park. I found Waikiki to be very walkable and it looked like more of a hassle to get around by car. If you are taking the vehicle around the island and out of the main part of town it would be a good idea to rent. If you're staying in the city for the majority of your time you may be better off without the car.
