So, tell me, how bad are the 757's?

Long story short...yesterday 6 friends and I booked a r/t flight to LGW this summer, each on seperate intineraries. However, the cheapest fare bucket was sold out by the time the 6th person booked his ticket. He called CO and had them move ALL of us from our original 767 flight to a 757 flight on our way home (it had enough cheap fare bucket seats). Obviously, hearing from all of you how "horrible" the 757's are...I am highly angry at what happened, but none of my non-airline knowledgable friends understand my anger. They just understand that my friend saved alot of money and we are leaving one-hour earlier.

1) How did my friend have the power to change my flight without my approval?

2) Is it worth my raising hell to get us back on to the 767? I have never been on a CO 757 and have no idea how bad/good it would be to cross the pond in one?

all opinions appreciated!
