We were in NYC in December and the hotel appeared to be closed and under major construction or re-model. Any idea how they plan to "alter" the integrity of the building? We really couldn't see much of what was going on.
They claim to be preserving the public spaces, and even reopening them (Palm Court for Tea Time, Oak Room Restaurant with Oak Bar, tec. But they are also apparently are making some changes in the ground level to accomodate a large "upscale" department store. Harrods has been rumored, but nothing confirmed.
On the room levels, things will be completely different with the majority of rooms converted to condos.
