After about a minute or so (could have been two) the pilot came on and told us that the left engine had quit, that there didn't appear to be a fire and that we were returning to SEA.
Then, as we had taken off to the south, we banked around to the west and then over the southern part of the city, over Boeing Field and came back in to SEA. Shortly before landing, the pilot told us that we were going to be stopping short on the runway and that there would be emergency service vehicles approaching, as a precaution.
The FAs didn't say much. Rather, they went up and down the aisle just sort of making sure that people didn't freak out.
By the way, of the three landings I had yesterday this one was definitely the smoothest.
