The choice of the word value is key here. Almost all Scandinavian properties meet a basic standard and I would rate them as good, but they fail misrably in providing value.

I plan my trips to Scandinavia very early and am usually booking at very good rates that are rarely offered. While staying at discount rates at "luxury" or design hotels in Scandinavia on my last five stays I have felt that they did not want to give me the same service "at that price". (not that I think that those few who actually pay rack rate are getting much better service)

I am on a trip around the USA now and using various Marriott brands. I am using Bonus Bucks to partially pay and often receiving bonus bucks for future stays. I have had three stays including one in Washington DC that worked out to be free of charge. I have been using Marriott Rewards package offers (M11) or Local Promotional Rates (LPR) while still earning full Marriott Rewards for future stays.

My point is that even under these circumstances I am being greeted with the same status as if I was paying full rate, been upgraded at 3 of 7 properties so far even though SK EBG holds no status there, and they now have fantastic new Marriott bedding which is quite luxurious.

I always feel that in Scandinavia they do not appreciate my business and never feel I am rewarded for my frequent (even though often discounted) stays.
