Oscars Fly To Academy Awards On UA P.S.

From WHQ:

Fifty of Hollywood's most coveted awards will travel
on p.s.-- our coast-to-coast premium service --
today to be presented to Hollywood's finest stars
during the 78th Annual Academy Awards.

For the past five years, the Oscar statuettes have
flown direct to Los Angeles from Chicago, where they
are produced by local manufacturer, R.S. Owens and
Company. This year, the statuettes will be in New
York City for a public viewing in the window of
Times Square Studios, and then in Los Angeles at the
Hollywood and Highland Center prior to heading to
the main event.

The Oscar statuettes' revised itinerary presents
United with a unique opportunity to showcase p.s. in
this year's "Flight of the Oscars" tradition. The
13 1/2-inch-tall statuettes will travel from New
York to Los Angeles on United before they are handed
over to the Academy officials for the ceremony.

"The markets served by p.s. are central to our
strategy to attract and serve our high-yield
travelers," says Dennis Cary, United's senior vice
president of Marketing. "Many of our valued p.s.
customers are members of the entertainment
community, and our sponsorship of the Academy and
role in the annual Oscar flight gives us the
opportunity to raise the visibility of p.s. with our
key customers."

All 50 of the gold-plated statuettes will fly on the
aircraft, officially designated "Oscar-1," flown by
Captain Dennis Taylor and First Officer Halli Mulei.
One special Oscar statuette will travel in United
First(R) for photo opportunities with passengers
onboard.

Celebrity Master Chef Wolfgang Puck will be a
special guest onboard and serve gold-coated
chocolate Oscar statuettes to passengers on the
flight. Customers will also participate in an
inflight Oscar trivia game with a chance to win
unique prizes provided by the Academy, United and
Wolfgang Puck.
