That's annoying. If the operator had been BA, or it had happened on the return leg, she would have been entitled to EU compensation (600 Euros) for them not notifying her in time about the cancellation. As it is, on a non-EU operator flying into Europe, the EU legislation does not cover her, and she is left with complaining. It's pretty specific, that it's the operator who matters on flights into Europe.
