I called Expedia last night to file my first claim. I reserved an Avis rental, then found the rate $3 cheaper (per day) at Avis.com. Lucikly, I got right through without any waiting. The Expedia rep was actually excited to go through the process as I was her "first". It took her quite awhile, but explained she wanted to be sure and do it right, etc. At one point, she said my claim would be denied because the difference had to be at least $6. With the terms & conditions in my hot little hand, I informed her that applied only to airline tickets. In the end, she verified the cheaper rate at Avis.com and proceeded to "award" the claim. She told me the $50 coupon should be deposited into my account by Noon today. Well, it's 8:00pm and no coupon, but I won't worry since the OP's experience was two days.
A couple of comments......
1. As to filing claims on line vs over the phone, I actually prefer doing it over the phone with a live body. Sure, I hate to wait on hold like anyone else, but I've had too much trouble with other guarantee programs where they weren't able to find the lower rate on their own. In the end, I've spent more time faxing proof of the lower rate, etc, than I would waiting on hold to speak directly with someone. Also, the wait between the time you submit an on line claim and the time someone processes can result in the lower rate no longer being available. And these programs always state the lower rate must be available at the time verified.
2. I'd like to see Expedia acknowledge claims with an email as soon as you file. As it stands now, my 24 hours is just about up, yet I have no coupon in my account nor any written proof I ever filed a claim. Although I'm sure it will work out in the end, I'd like something in writing acknowledging I filed a claim while I wait for the coupon to show up in my account.
