I like row 1 too since it is easier to use a laptop. I always put my laptop under my seat, or between my seat and the wall or in the magazine pouch if I am in the window seat. Not technically allowed, but believe it or not, nobody has ever made it their business.
My last flight in row 1, there was a man who placed his laptop under his newspaper (very descretely before take-off). I thought he was safe, until the FA came up and asked him to please put his laptop up above. The guy looked like this
But sheepishly stood up and put his computer away and twiddled his thumbs for about 20min.
