Very strange strategy from both sides. I spent 125 nights in Starwood Hotels last year at an average room rate of over $500. The only reason I started started staying in Starwoods last year was because of the SPG Platinum benefit. My work pays for suites on business, and I use the points to stay for leisure. Sure, I'll probably continue to stay with Starwood now I am in this pattern and will qualify for SPG platinum anyway, but I would never have started staying at Starwoods in the first place were it not for this benefit. Centurion cardholders are like gold dust and tend to be high spenders and frequent travellers. Surely this is a group of people that Starwood would like to continue to market to ?
