(Relatively) Good Experience With Expedia Best Rate Guarantee
This past weekend, with much trepidation based on others' experiences with Best Rate Guarantees I've read about, I made a Best Rate Guarantee claim on Expedia for a hotel rate. Orbitz had the same hotel and room type for $1.12 cheaper per night, so Expedia refunded me the difference and gave me a $50 coupon for a future Expedia Special Rate hotel or air+hotel package, as advertised. I was very careful to make sure that Orbitz listed the exact same room type as Expedia before I went ahead and booked on Expedia, as otherwise I was worried they would have tried to weasel out of it. I made the claim on a Saturday, the $50 coupon was in my Expedia account by Monday and I also received an e-mail receipt for my credit card refund.
They really should put together an online claim form, as I think every other Best Rate Guarantee I've ever seen has. I had to sit on the phone for 20+ minutes (including a couple long stays on hold during which I was almost sure I was either going to be hung up on or I was going to hang up myself because I didn't feel like sitting on hold any longer) while the guy searched for the lower rate I had found and then processed the claim (he wasn't what I would call "swift," but he eventually got the job done).
