Another thing. If memory serves me correctly, Germany was the first to ask for laptops to be removed, long before the US and 9/11. But then they stopped. And started again sometime after 9/11.
I remember that as well - almost missed a very short connection because the security guy at FRA wanted my laptop out and booted up before he'd let me go
