Every time I'm in Paris we buy a 400 g ballotin of their chocolates and many bars and their orangettes. They are lovely and beautifully packaged. I will admit that this time I ate more than I ever did in the past, so I had to buy another ticket to Paris to replenish our supply.

Here is TH's ranking of chocolate places:

1. Debauve and Gallais (rue st. peres is very nice)
2. Foucher - great orangettes and the best selection of the fruit pastilles I have ever seen (only one store left on Avenue de l'opera - close to park hyatt)
3. La Maison du chocolat (sevres-bablyone branch)
4. Patrick Roger (boul st. germain)
5.Gerard Mulot (best rochers in town, IMHO)

As for buying in NYC, yes, for a treat, but honestly, it would be cheaper to fly to Paris to buy a kg. box and a few for your friends than to buy in NYC or have them shipped from NYC to whereever.

Besides, it makes a good story at immigration.
