It's also a cowboy movie, a love movie, etc. But can't we just be happy that someone has made a high quality gay movie without relying on stereotypes or making fun of us. That doesn't happen often.
I disagree strongly here. If the characters were not gay men, no one would be clamouring about it being a "gay" movie. It is a film about forbidden love. If you interchanged the two gay men with two lovers of different religious backgrounds, the message of the movie would be the same and nobody would be out screaming about the Christian/Muslin movie!
