We're talking BASE miles here. Miles from activities like Delta dining don't count toward status. The only exception is the AMEX Platinum Optima card, which does generate status miles, but it's probably too late to get them for 2001. A quick flight is the answer, or begging Delta for an exception to the rules. If you choose a flight, you might want to go over New Year's, so that the return flight counts toward status in 2002.

Bruce, Gui said, "GO SOMEWHERE AND HAVE LUNCH ONE DAY AND GET THIS OVER WITH." I think that Gui meant, "Get on a plane and go somewhere and have lunch..." I don't think Gui was referring to the Dining for points program.
