What I plan to do this year is to book 4 flights (2 paid, 2 award) in this manner for the remainder of 2006 in order to enjoy the "informally extended status".
You should also plan to keep your fingers crossed that there are no equipment changes or significant schedule changes. Either one, but mostly an equipment change, may instantly twist your seating plans inside out.
With the changes I have been getting for the last 4 months, and the next 3 months, maybe you had better cross a lot of fingers.
