I agree that "Brokeback Mountain" is not really a gay movie. I mean, the two main characters don't even identify as being gay. It(the movie)is about forbidden love. You could switch out the two males for two lovers of different ethnic backgrounds or different religious beliefs and the message of the film would still be same.
All right folks, let's not overintellectualize this. It is a gay movie. How can it not be a gay movie? I suppose the Gone with the Wind could be a northern gay movie if you switched out Scarlett and Rhett for Bill and Michael in Chelsea. But that's not the point.
It's also a cowboy movie, a love movie, etc. But can't we just be happy that someone has made a high quality gay movie without relying on stereotypes or making fun of us. That doesn't happen often.
