As an American returning to the US, I've generally found immigration in the US to be far more friendly post-9/11 than pre-9/11. But I've also found customs to be far less friendly post-9/11 than pre-9/11 -- and the only kind of "secondary" I have gotten in the US is Ag inspection related ones.
