This is the point I am continually making to my friends (gay and straight). This film is a brilliant exploration of 'love' - between daughter and father, wife and questioning husband, father and son (we see this twice), mother and son, and so on.
Many people focus on the story about being a love story between two cowboys - but it could very well be the
absence of love (depending on your definition of it) in the direction Ennis to Jack that is highlighted by the relationships I mentioned above. It really is very clever - whether it's entertaining or not to the viewer is dependent on recognition of the above and your own tastes, but I think many can't deny that it displays the complexities of relationships extremely well.
