I just took DEN-OAK at 8:20PM, a 957 mile and a 2:37 flight, and got the fruit plate. I've also took SJC-DEN around 2:30PM and received the fruit plate about 6 months ago.
Bummer about IAD-ORD in the morning not getting any food. I had a salmon salad on it recently on the 5:30PM departure.
Perhaps a combination of issues were at work. Maybe they don't have full meal service on that flight but forgot to board the F "snack". After a couple of bloody mary's, I didn't really care
