jwhite: We had a long discussion in the past (one of the BE upgrade megathreads) regarding award availability for Medallion vs standard member. It only makes a difference with coach class awards. Upgrades and free tickets for premium cabins (First Class and BusinessElite) all come out of the same inventory regardless of status. The only time status plays in is with waitlists.

So you think that if there is award availability for the lower award level in F, there should also be upgrade inventory (either miles or Medallion Upgrade Points?). But if there are no award tickets available, it doesn't necessarily mean that there are no upgrade seats?
