Well, that's a lot of crap. The flight is weeks away and I bet they don't even know which aircraft is on that route on that date. Sounds like a FAM got your seat and I can understand why they would tell you any story but the truth.
The good news is that things change in FC all the time so you may get a seat in F, then most likely someone will shuffle seats around so you and your GF acan be together.
Just make sure that your PNR states that you are owed a FC seat and that you were pulled out of an assigned seat.
