I would probably go for LH - FRA is arguably an easier airport to connect through (especially as you get to use the First Class faciltities there, including a limo drive to the plane) and you will at least get Business Class on MAN-FRA-MAN. BMI only have economy on MAN-LHR-MAN these days where you have to pay for food and drink (hardly the nicest start to a premium class trip!). The GlobrGround(LH) lounge at MAN is not bad either.
At Chicago, it makes no difference which carrier you are on, as LH and UA both use Terminal 1 and the United International F Lounge will be available to you over in the C Concourse.
