Igotpipped, the only way you can upgrade on UA is to buy 500 mile certs from them - I think it's $200 for 4 500 milers. Plus there has to be availability to use them.

I tried like hell to talk the UA agent at IAD into upgrading me to SEA on Sunday AM at 7:30 - we left with 2 empty F seats and me in coach.
