I don't believe I've ever heard of flights to South America being cancelled because of a hurricane between the two airports, either when I was flying when there was a hurricane in the Carribean or Gulf, or seeing anything like that posted here.

And I doubt airliners fly through a hurricane - although I suspect they could do that easily. It's just that the passengers that wouldn't like the ride.

So they must go around them, I guess.
