I decided to stay in CHI an extra day to interview candidates. The Peninsula was full that night, so I had to move out. It turns out the candidate was able to get a room at The Peninsula, and even got upgraded to a sizeable suite. The next day following the interview, I hurried to ORD to catch an earlier flight to ATL. I made it, but not in time to be added to the upgrade list. The punk 20-year old candidate with just DL silver status was on the flight and smiled at me as I walked past him to my center seat in Y.

He received a job offer, though perhaps an offer to switch seats would have helped the signing bonus. Had I found out that he had not used his FF number and upgrade saavy during the interview trip, I would have been disgusted and would have had to turn him down for lack of "fit".
