I live in MSN myself and in my mind there is only one way to go - through ORD. march shouldn't be too bad when it comes to weather. try not booking the last flight of the day and you should be alright.
flying through ORD gives you quite a few more miles and I usually find it to be cheaper. additionally there is only CR7 flying to DEN whereas if you time it right you can upgrade to intl C on ORD-LAX/SFO depending on how you route yourself.
haven't found any decent fares to the west coast lately. please let me know if you find something great.
