A major reason was not using a CRS.

Fujnny, isn't it? Nobody bats a lash when it comes to paying a buck for a cna of soda on the ground (even on transportation, eg. AMTRAK,) yet in the air, we want 'em free.

Then again, nobody lashes a bat, either...
