In that column Randy said that you can take the Marriott 713 award as miles on BA, but all the information we ever accumulated stated that the BA award was a coupon for specific US gateways to Europe, and that travel to the gateway city was excluded.

With the new awards structure, BA is miles. With the old one, it was a coupon as far as we could tell.
