However, it is sometimes possible to do (very lossy) transfers among programs either directly with points.com, or via some third program (Hilton, Amtrak, &c.).

Unfortunately, I've never seen any path either out of Skymiles, or into Rapid Rewards.

People who've been on FT longer than me may be better informed, but I'm afraid you may be stuck.
Check out the mileage conversion tool on Web Flyer.com I know that you can transfer several ff program miles through Diners Club Rewards into Soutwest. Unfortunately not Delta though.
