He will NOT be upgraded. In fact silvers would get upgraded before him. His only chance now depending on how close they are to flying (since you didnt say that) is to split the reservation. Only Platinums get upgraded with their guest 5 days out (space avail.) Golds dont. and having the non-elite on the same res keeps the gold from being upgraded.
