I will wait until after a car rental I reserved with a Platinum rate in February, but after that--seeing as how the card is up for renewal in February anyway--I'm cancelling. Just received the gold card I applied for last week in preparation for this, so I should be able to "align" my membership rewards better once I'm paying AmEx a lot less.
In all seriousness, it's (*&!#$*@ up. This was one of the major benefits of Platinum...for me, anyway.

Alignment my foot, I immediately cancelled the Platinum card, redeemed 140,000 MR points, downgraded Amex Corporate to Membership Rewards Options ($40) and shifted 90% of my spending to Starwood and Hilton Amex. Greedy pigs...
