I suppose it does make sense to avoid having hot drinks on you for the bumpier parts o the ride. But illegal? I still have fond memories of walking on to a BD plane with a hot honey and lemon drink one of their wonderful DC lounge attendants had prepared for me (without asking) when she saw me snivelling in the corner.
