I did experience some problems like this with Safari in Mac OS 10.3.8 (Panther). However, when I upgraded to 10.4.3 (Tiger), they disappeared. Even after the upgrade, I do rarely get an error message of "too many redirects" but that is solveable by logging out, closing Safari and logging back in.
