Sorry about the confusion earlier about the UK not being a Schengen area country. My bad. I promise I am actually a reasonably literate person. :-)
It sounds like if you are connecting from one non-Schengen destination to another (which will be my case several times over the next few years) and don't leave the airport, you never see customs nor immigration nor security. It does not matter if you are transferring "piers" or whatever. Is that correct?
