Also, I suggest that a driver who is not absolutely comfortable with shifting gears in busy traffic and urban areas to rent an automatic even if more expensive; after all, safety -- including those safety concerns related to drivers controlling their car while paying perfect attention to the road and not to "how to shift gears" -- is a primary concern.
