Can I make my own tea on UA transatlantic flights?
I’m not much of a fan of ‘black’/English style tea on aeroplanes. I guess that’s because water can’t boil at the 100°C required (as well as altitude doing funny things to your sense of smell as tea can’t actually be ‘tasted’.) It's always rather dreadful.
But the green tea served on flights to and from NRT is generally passable (Japanese green tea requires a lower temperature to steep properly, between 90° & 60°C depending on the quality. I think this makes the difference.)
As I have a couple of very long flights with UA this weekend, I was wondering if it would be OK to bring my ‘tea kit' along with me.
The outbound part, LHR-SFO is either in E+ or C, the return is in C.
Do you think the FA’s would fill a thermos flask with hot water for me? And would I be allowed to have a small terracotta teapot and cup at my seat?
Is it something that would be more acceptable to do in C than E+, or it shouldn’t matter.
Thanks for your views.
