Indeed this seems to be the case - SQ is one of the most profitable airlines in the world.
Not only that, but an SQ F/A told me that the airline loads one of every meal choice on the F class menu for each passenger, so that EVERYONE will always get their "first choice." As a result, there is a lot of wasted food, and maybe SQ has decided that the "revenue" they receive for the award ticket isn't worth the added expense on the cost side of things. (Not to mention the extra Dom and Krug that will be consumed!).
