You gain 50% that way but as he's PE he's probably going to get upgraded anyway. So he might as well use the 400 for %100 if he can find the right routes.
I'm in a similar situation and am trying to come up with the best solution myself. Just have a little less money to worry about so it should be a bit easier. But I think we're both trying to maximize miles hence trying to use the whole thing in Y. (Not fare code Y.)
