Honestly, it would depend.

The problem with the free ticket is that you will not earn any EQMs. If you are trying to earn (or re-earn) elite status with United, I might consider paying for the ticket just to get the EQMs.

If you don't care about earning elite status, then yes, definitely, saving $600 is a great way to spend 20,000 extra miles.
