Had a close call with AA yesterday in domestic First (Hayden to ORD). Two cases (would have been one, but BA lost our case for a week - so the second, smaller, one had the all the stuff we had to buy to survive that week...), a holdall full of ski boots and ski stuff and a double ski bag. The big suitcase was 65lbs. The ski boot and ski stuff holdall weighed 55lbs.
Check-in lady explained that - since November - this was now over the "50lb International Baggage limit". Fortunately she had had HUGE trouble through-checking out luggage to a BA ORD-LHR flight later that day. She worked out that it was her fault that she was having trouble with the check-in (was attempting to put the wrong date for the BA flight). We had been incredibly patient, polite and understanding and she let the excess baggage charge slide...
May need to rethink how we pack in future... maybe need a smaller suitcase (that's one way to limit the weight that you put in it...).
