LexPassenger, you are quite right.

I have done this with no problem. You are given a receipt that looks like the receipt that is attached to a paper ticket.

Example: If your SWU/NAMU/PMU expires tomorrow, you can buy a ticket (assuming it's an applicable fare) for travel 330 days out and apply the certificate to the fare for the upgrade, providing you surrender the certificate to the CTO/airport.

Since the validity is for use, and you surrender them when applied, we have always interpreted this (like SWUs) to mean they can be used for any eligible ticket acquired by the expiration date, even if the ticket is used after the expiration date.

Anybody done this yet?
