I concur that getting points for others' stays (even while staying at another property) is possible. I've had it happen for me. However, to "expect" it, discuss it with anyone at Marriott prior to trying it, or ask for it after the fact would probably be a bad idea. IMO, your best bet is to book it through your online account with your number and the name of the person staying. Then, keep your mouth shut and cross your fingers.
