Yeah, I thought about the terrorist angle as well. If they're not on a watch list, it won't matter and then when something goes boom, only then will the process be reevaluated.
It really doesn't seem that we (as the traveling public) gain much from this at all, other than "cool" new cards and gizmos that make us think that people must be safe if they're in that line.
