Seriously though the OPs goal can be achieved, but the way I have seen it done is as follows.
My "friend's" wife was going on a trip with her dad. My "friend" reserved a room under his name and then called reservations to add his wife's name to the reservation as they'd be arriving separately (sp?). His name and his visa were on the reservation, he was on a business trip in an entirely different state earning MR points at another property. He called the hotel the morning before she checked in, talked to the front desk to say his wife would be arriving before him, but he'd like to keep the room on his visa so he "gave her the card". There wasn't a single problem (from what I heard)
